40 Under Class – 2016

Carolyn Daley Scott has been practicing personal injury law with Power, Rogers & Smith for 10 years. During that time, she has obtained a steady stream of multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements for her clients.

For instance, Daley Scott recently served as co-counsel in a medical malpractice case that resulted in a $10.4 million verdict. Prior to that, she was co-counsel in a wrongful death and personal injury case stemming from a car accident resulting in a $5.5 million verdict. Daley Scott also helped obtain a $4.8 million settlement for a client in a medical malpractice case and a settlement of $3.9 million in a dental malpractice case.

These are just some of the outstanding results that Daley Scott has obtained for her clients. “Carolyn’s record on behalf of her injured clients during her first 10 years of practice is impressive,” said Terrence Burns with Chicago’s Dykema Gossett. “Carolyn has been involved in several multi-million-dollar verdicts on behalf of plaintiffs. She also has been involved in at least six multi-million-dollar settlements on behalf of injured plaintiffs. These cases were highly complex and vigorously defended. Carolyn has been an integral part of these cases.”

How has Daley Scott managed to craft such a stellar record? Burns points to this attorney’s legal knowledge, work ethic and commitment to her clients. “She is a hard-working and talented attorney, whose legal skill and judgment are outstanding,” Burns said. “She is always well-prepared, knowledgeable and professional.”

According to Joseph Spitzzeri, a shareholder at Chicago’s Johnson & Bell, “Carolyn is always well prepared, organized and understands the strengths and weaknesses of not only her case, but that of her opponents. A trait that serves all trial lawyers well. Her accomplishments are that much more impressive when one considers she achieved these results, and professional status, while at the same time raising a young family of two sons and also serving charitable organizations. She is someone that Power Rogers & Smith can be proud of and is a good example for other professional women raising a family and developing a career.”

“Carolyn is able to quickly identify the strengths and weaknesses in cases, works diligently and cooperatively with the opposition on cases to move them along in the best interests of clients and advocates strongly but professionally for clients,” said Patrick Croke with Chicago’s Sidley Austin. “She also brings a strategic advocacy to her matters that I often have not observed in many other lawyers, even those with similar experience to Carolyn.”

According to Joseph A. Power, Jr., a founding partner at Power Rogers & Smith, P.C., “Carolyn has found a way to uniquely balance her commitment to the law firm as well as her family without sacrificing either.”

When not advocating for her clients, Daley Scott spends her time giving back and with her husband and two children. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Special Olympics Chicago, a co-chair of the Georgetown Scholarship Program for the Chicago region providing programmatic support for first generation college students, and a governing member ambassador for Brookfield Zoo. In addition, she serves as vice chair of the Qui Tam Litigation Group for the American Association of Justice and has served on the Chicago Bar Association’s judicial evaluation committee since 2013.
