Limb-disposal lawsuit gets a second chance

A state appeals court has allowed a man’s lawsuit over the disposal of an amputated leg to advance against a suburban hospital and its on-staff rabbi. In March 2011, Moshe Lefkowitz underwent surgery at Skokie Hospital to amputate his left leg below the knee. Following the surgery, the hospital incinerated the leg. That same week, Lefkowitz sued the hospital and its parent company, NorthShore University HealthSystem, in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging it was negligent in failing to preserve his leg in …
