Record verdict awarded over big toe amputation

A Cook County jury has awarded a $935,600 verdict to a woman who lost one of her big toes after surgery. The amount is an Illinois record, surpassing the previous mark of $398,000, awarded by a Cook County jury in a 1999 medical-malpractice case, according to the Jury Verdict Reporter.
