Circuit court proper place for fee fight

An attorney-fee fight that arose from a workers’ compensation case correctly proceeded through the circuit court, the state’s top justices ruled today. Despite a law saying such disputes should go to the Workers’ Compensation Commission, the Illinois Supreme Court ruled unanimously the language applies to lawyers who actually appear before the commission — not those who simply set up referrals.
