Judge: Seller was not liable for online theft

An equipment company is not liable for the actions of a thief who posed as the business online and ripped off one of its customers, a federal judge has held.In a written opinion last week, U.S. District Judge John Robert Blakey threw out a lawsuit Landale Signs and Neon Ltd. filed against Runnion Equipment Co.Landale alleges an unknown person intercepted information about its agreement to buy a truck-mounted crane from Runnion.The thief then sent an e-mail directing Landale to wire its $87,625 payment to him or her …
