Transgender bill gets new push in House

SPRINGFIELD — Democratic lawmakers reintroduced a bill that would make it easier for a transgender person to change the sex listed on his or her birth certificate.It is identical to a bill filed last session by Rep. Greg Harris that was approved in committee but not voted on by the full House before the session ended.House Bill 1785 would update Section 1 and 17 of the state’s Vital Records Act, which currently requires a transgender person to undergo surgery in order to change the sex on their birth …
