Joliet man raised valid 4th Amendment claim: SCOTUS

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that a man who was unlawfully detained by Joliet police raised a valid Fourth Amendment claim and may pursue a Section 1983 claim against the city in federal courtIn the 6-2 majority opinion, Justice Elena Kagan wrote that a person’s pretrial detention can violate the Fourth Amendment even after the “legal process” has begun.
