Lawmakers propose legalizing, taxing cannabis

SPRINGFIELD — Two lawmakers have proposed legalizing and taxing marijuana as one new way to bring in much needed revenue to the state’s coffers.Rep. Kelly Cassidy and Sen. Heather Steans, both Chicago Democrats, introduced identical bills that would regulate the possession, sale and production of legal marijuana.House Bill 2353 and Senate Bill 316 would allow Illinois residents to possess and purchase up to one ounce, or 28 grams, of marijuana from retail stores that are registered to sell the product.&ldquo …
