$1.5M verdict back on over eye damage

A Cook County jury’s $1.5 million award for a man whose eye shriveled after cataract surgery will be reinstated after a state appeals panel found his expert sufficiently testified to the injury’s cause.Circuit Judge Deborah M. Dooling entered an order last April granting judgment to eye doctor Melvyn Gerstein and Gerstein Eye Institute Ltd. despite the jury’s award, finding plaintiff Romil Pityou’s expert testimony on bacterial infection to be speculation based on another physician’s notes.But …
