Court dishes on ways Dish courts: TV provider fined $280M for do-not-call violations

SPRINGFIELD — A federal district court judge in Illinois has ordered Dish Network to pay $280 million for violating federal telemarketing rules and state laws.The case was brought against Dish by the U.S. Department of Justice in 2009 and went to bench trial in January 2016 before U.S. District Judge Sue E. Myerscough in Springfield federal court.The states of Illinois, North Carolina, California and Ohio are also named plaintiffs in the case.Dish said it plans to appeal the ruling, which was issued Monday.The …
