Lanning Macfarland Jr., chairman of the Law Bulletin Publishing Company, was named The John Marshall Law School’s 2017 Freedom Award Honoree at a ceremony Thursday night. Macfarland was first named a company leader in 1953 at the young age of 28. He’s part of a long tradition of Macfarlands who have led the company, dating back to when Lanning’s grandfather, Henry J. Macfarland Sr., bought the then-called Bulletin Printing Co. and its assets, which included the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, in 1879.
