Abortion-opposing state lawmakers sue to stop new law

A group of Republican lawmakers and anti-abortion organizations are suing to halt a new law that allows state money to go toward abortions.The taxpayer lawsuit, filed Thursday in Sangamon County Circuit Court, challenges Public Act 100-538 — known more commonly as House Bill 40 — which permits the use of state funding, through Medicaid and state employees’ health insurance plans, to pay for abortion procedures.Gov.
